Place the water softener near to the waterline, before any other plumbing connections except outdoor water pipes.
Outdoor faucets should stay on the hard water supply to avoid losing soft water.
Need a drain to capture the salty waste and carry it away. You may use a floor drain, laundry tub, sump, standpipe, etc., as allowed by your local plumbing codes.
It is important to make sure the backwash drain line is installed with a proper air gap to prevent the backflow of water into the softener.
Don’t place the end of the drainage hose in the drain.
Avoid connecting water softeners in parallel. A parallel installation will double the water that can be conditioned, but the hardness will not change.
